My husband and i lived in MA. We used Amica then. After moving to Canada, we switched to State farm. But when we relocated to NC, we are back with Amica. I find Amica a lot cheaper than State farm. We are renting, so i am not sure about home insurance..

We had AIG for a long time in NJ and were happy with them BUT when we relocated, their quote for NC was the exact same as our NJ policy. So I got some local quotes, Geico was cheapest at HALF of what we paid in NJ. Allstate was 2nd best (and probably what I should have gone with given our home owners is with them) but I opted for Geico. They've been great, no complaints.

Bottom line though is for anyone reading/relocating...do not just go with your current auto insurance company as you may miss out on the rate drop..check locally!

No offense to our New Jerseyites, (I used to be one myself), but New Jersey has about the highest rates for auto insurance in the country. My rates fell to 20% of what I was paying in New Jersey.

It is weird that AIG's quoted rates were the same as NJ, but in all other cases, dropping to half of what one paid in NJ doesn't mean that much because the market for insurance in NC is just much better than in New Jersey, which only has two or maybe three insurers and in recent years has been threatened with State Farm possibly leaving-- I believe the state has had to beg State Farm to stay. Insurers just don't make money on insurance in New Jersey as they do in other states.

Anyway, I have Geico now, but I am supposed to renew tomorrow and did a few quotes last night on insweb.com, and it seems that AIG is more than $100 less than my current Geico policy. I hope it wasn't just a bait-and-switch tactic, and I'll be calling AIG tonight or tomorrow to look into it.

I've dealt with Travellers, Geico and State Farm in NC since Y2K. I found Travellers extremely difficult to deal with after an accident. They kept closing my claim without covering the rental allowance I had opted for on my policy, which maxed out after my car was in the shop for 6 weeks (work overload right after icestorm). Took repeated attempts both on my part and my agent to get is resolved. A year later, dealing with Progressive I had a motorcycle stolen, which they decided they would not pay full valuation on, and I had to sue them to settle on what I considered a fair valuation. I found out later that when I rejected their initial offer, they pulled my credit report. I've been dealing with State Farm since, and have been very happy. I've heard very positive things about Amica as well...

No offense taken (I have nothing to do with NJ auto insurance rates).

Well, it certainly means much to me! Regardless of the reasons (which as a NJite, I am aware of), a 50% drop in auto insurance is rockin! Also, I have read in other similar threads here that others have had the same experience as I did with AIG (with other auto ins co's) so I think its a relocation/auto insurance thing. When you are already with an insurance co and relocate to another state, they are not competitive for some reason.

I wonder what AIG will come up with when one is NOT transferring from one state to another. Keep us posted!
