From South Durham (27713) to IBM in the Triangle... 10 - 15 minutes tops. I LOVE MY COMMUTE!!!

I used to live in Cary (went up Maynard to Evans Road to Aviation Pkwy to 40) Easily 25-30 minutes... Not that much fun at all.

Cheers!
Matt

I live between Pittsboro and Sanford and commute to RTP. In the mornings I leave the house by 6:15 and arrive at work around 7. We take 15-501 to 64 to 751 to Fayetteville Rd to 40 to Davis. In the afternoons it takes a little longer. I leave work around 4 and am home by 5. Going home we take 54 to 540 to 55 to 64 to 15-501.

My husband and I also carpool because he works on Aviation. It saves a lot on gas each month but also means sometimes I'm stuck waiting around for him.

We're saving up for a down payment on a house so hopefully next year we will be super close to work. I'm crossing my fingers.

My husband works off Page Road and we live ITB off Wade Avenue. If he leaves at 7am, he gets there in 20 minutes or less usually. He leaves the Park at about 5:45 and it is the same.

Of course, this morning, as many of you know, there was some craziness at the RBC center and it took him 45 minutes!

When I worked in RTP, I lived in Raleigh, and I used to curse and shout every day with the bumper to bumper traffic. My friends who lived in Woodcroft and Hope Valley used to sail into work with a 5-10 minute commute. I was so jealous!

I've noticed that the RTP traffic on 40 to Chapel Hill is much lighter than the RTP to Cary/Raleigh traffic, so perhaps that's worth investigating.

Also, since that bypass to 55 opened, is the RTP to Apex commute a little easier?

Do you mean the extra lanes on 55?

I thought there was now a new section of 540 from I-40 that connected to 55 further south. Am I wrong about this? Maybe I dreamt it. There certainly NEEDS to be one. The drive down 55 to Apex is crawl and stop, crawl and stop.

Oh, that is just another leg of 540. The extra lanes of 55 really sped things up. 540 merging onto it creates congestion between 4:45pm and 6:15pm or so until you are past Morrisville Carpenter Rd. (there are 3 lights soon after 540 on 55 here). After that, things are pretty quick again. When the Davis Dr widening opens, that will help somewhat. And hopefully the next 540 section will start before long (even as a toll road).

It is all MUCH better than sitting through the I-40 mess from Aviation to the Wade split.

used to live in Cary, my 6 mile commute to RTP took 30 minutes in the morning (8am) and 45+ if I came home at 5pm. Leaving 45 minutes earlier or later would result in a 10 minute drive.

Now I live in South Durham 27703. I'm 13 miles from work and my morning drive is 20 minutes (with traffic...tee-hee) and coming home it's 15.

In a few year unless you live close most areas in Wake county will have a 1 hour drive to RTP. Nothing will stop that since the roads arent anywhere near able to keep up with people moving here. If you say dont want to do more than an hour, I would move where it is currently a half hour, at least that gives you some breathing room.
