My mom wants to live on or near a lake where she can have a motor boat, ski, and swim. We came from an area of NJ where this was quite common. In looking around here, we have had a hard time finding lakes where she can do that because the lakes are either protected or too small. She really likes Lake Wylie, but I would prefer if we can find her something much closer to where I live since I plan on staying in Orange County (with her grandchildren!). We went and checked out Mackintosh on the Lake which is in Burlington, so not terribly far, and they can have boats, but no skiing or swimming, so it's out. Any good suggestions within about an hour or even an hour and a half of Orange Cty? She wants a place to retire, so the schools are not so important. Her range is about the $300's. TIA

Default Living on a Lake

I am not sure about the other lakes that were listed, but we had friends that bought a get away house at White Lake in NC. We were invited up there a couple of weeks ago for the weekend and I was impressed. Mostly an area for summer time, but very friendly people and house are for sale, tho have no idea what they charge for them. The Lake in the middle is just 8 feet deep and clear as a bell. I would recommend typing in White Lake Realtor and see what info you can get. This area is close to a town called Elizabeth City and is about 90 min from Jacksonville NC where we live.

Hi,
We live on Lake Hickory- a hour north of Charlotte. It is inexpensive, and a very nice development that has a private boat dock on the lake. Let me know if you want more info.
