I heard this week that Bass Pro Shop is opening in Cary and they are currently interviewing. I am not sure how to locate them but I'd start with a web search or maybe the News & Observer's site.
Before just taking any job that comes up, your dad might want to to do some career eval at the Wake Tech or NCSU Career Center. Take a few inventories, talk with a counselor about what he wants out of working and what he brings to the table.
He might decide to take classes or obtain certifications. Or he might just use the information to focus on the available jobs that are the best fit for who he is and what he wants.
I work part time for the PNC Arena as an usher. I can pretty much pick the evenings I want to work (as long as I am available for 50% of the events they offer) and it is low-stress, I get to see Canes hockey, NCSU basketball, and concerts and get paid to do it. It's not huge money but I am happy to have this job. There are many retirees there.

Working retail really sucks if you like to have weekends and holidays off...they expect all hands on deck during busy times around the major holidays and you are frowned upon for requesting time off. My wife has worked for Lowe's Foods for 15 years and we have sacrificed many family weekends and holidays because she had to work.
