RDSLOTS, I've got a high water bill too. I'm in Cary, renting a house on a .25 acre lot. One person. One load of laundry a week. One dishwasher load a week. And I'm not watering my lawn (obviously). When we could water, I did so for only 10 minutes, 3 times a week, as I am responsible per my rental contract for the lawn. My bill is about $90 per month.
I've called the town 3 times to tell them I think something is wrong. I am paying three times more per month than I paid at home, with a .4 acre lot watered every other day.
I keep getting told "no, those numbers are right."
Very frustrating. I'm hoping it will get better when our house is finished in Apex. Maybe it will be cheaper. Don't know.
Thanks for all of your feedback. The water bill seems high to me, too. I'd hate to think we are "water hogs," so I will give the Town of Cary a call in the a.m. We do live on a corner lot, roughly 1/3 of an acre, and have an irrigation system -- which is 'new' to us, ie. running and maintaining one. It has 12 zones, and my husband set it to run every other day, when we were watering earlier in the summer, some zones very little. I wash clothes maybe twice/week and run the dishwasher maybe 2 -3 times/week, as well. We both shower daily. By contrast, my highest water bill in Wilmington was about $90, and that was during the hottest month of the summer in an attempt to keep my flowers/annuals from croaking in the heat.
