I was just getting ready to say that. Raspberry or blackberry can't be beat, served warm with vanilla ice cream. Whole Foods makes a nice one, for a kings ransom, during raspberry season.
Got it home and found it is an unidentifiable berry pie.
Check your pie before departing the store.
This has been a Thanksgiving public service announcement.
I saw the same thing tonight at Whole Foods in Cary. The label said apple but I could see it was berry...blueberry I think. Anyhow, methinks $12.99 is crazy for an apple pie anyway. Even a quasi apple blueberry one.
Pecan pie rules in my world! My neighbor, though, used to make a Green Grape pie from unripened Mustang grapes with a custard filling. It had a sweet/sour flavor that was unlike anything I have ever eaten. Gave my Pecan pie a run for the money!
As a standard rule, I don't buy pies.. but I'd have been livid!
Also - I don't care for pumpkin pie.... don't care who's recipe. A good crust is a must on all pies, but pumpkin just is far from my even top 10. A good homemade sweet potato pie is a great substitute, though, or even better.
I make a mean sour cream apple pie with an almond brown sugar topping that is literally to die for. I prefer that to anything.
BUT - I am making a pumpkin pie, a peanut butter pie (for my husband), and a sour cream apple pie for just the 4 of us this year. We will be rather pie heavy... but happy, this year!
That stupid Whole Foods pie was totally outrageous in price so I wanted to make sure I switched it for the right one. They are delicious as well!
I just learned there is a New England tradition of eating pie for breakfast on Thanksgiving - can anyone confirm? Either way, I may need to start the tradition here. Mmm, pie.
