Retirement in Raleigh Metro Area (Chapel Hill: chapel, how much, houses)

My husband and I are thinking of retiring to the Raleigh area. Are their any Retirement Communities in these cities? We are young retirees, 55, and still active and enjoy a town that is connected with a university.

Also, how much snow does this area receive in the winter?

There are retirement communities in the area, but they all depend on what you are looking for (doesn't it always!!!). In chapel hill (my mom lives there, I grew up there) there are a couple of "retirement communities" that have different levels of retirement, from villas, all the way to acute care. From what I understand, you start in one area and move to others based on your physical health. So, those are the "standards", but there area also newer places that are communities where there are houses but all of the amenities are taken care of (the lawn maintenance, etc) for a monthly fee. Then there are housing communities that are age specific, I think 52 and older, and those are just housing developments without the "medical care" aspect like the places in chapel hill.

SO, that is what I mean by it depends. And snowfall, well, in the triangle we get a couple of inches maybe! Some years there is more, some years just a couple of inches. We do tend to get ice though, instead of snow. People freak out here with the snow, usually if there is a chance of snow the schools close! My dad grew up in canada and my mom in north dakota, so they never really understood the whole snow issue here!

I have heard near chapel hill they are going to build briar ridge, which has said it is going to be an age restricted community, but that may be wrong.
