I am an adult in need of braces. I also have concerns that I may need other treatment in orthodontia, but right now I am only concerned about getting braces. I have called Gleenwood Smiles and the six month braces will cost $4,500, but I am interested to know if there is insurance I may purchase that will help with the cost for adult braces.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thank you.

I went through this in California.

I started out with insurance that covered orthodontics, but later switched to coverage that was better in MOST ways, excepting it didn't cover orthodontia.

I don't know if it works the same locally, but...

1) I found a company that gave Discount Dental Plans (instead of insurance). With a membership fee I ended up with a discount off the orthodontics.

2) From there I actually spoke with my provider, who agreed to negotiate lower from there.

I don't know much about companies offering discount dental plans locally, but it may be worth researching. In addition, I'd definitely call around and see if any orthodontists are willing to negotiate price given you don't have insurance.

I bought supplemental dental insurance through work with MetLife, specifically because my husband will need some kind of orthodontia or implants or who knows what in the future. There is a 2 year wait before they will cover any of that though.

Check whether you can use a Health Savings Account to pay for it yourself and whether that would be a tax benefit.
