I agree with you. The local stations are so much more conservative (to put it nicely) then most other sources I've been referencing. Even if we don't get much snow, the amount of moisture associated with this storm and the fact that ground temps will be slightly below freezing means we could get significant icing. Which we all know would be a lot worse than 4-8 inches of snow.

I swear by Janice Dean on FNC. She said this could be an EPIC ice storm for the Carolinas. I am wishing for it to move over to the east a little bit so we can have more snow and less ice

Can you please wish for it to move to the west (a LOT)? I'm supposed to leave for vacation early on Thursday, and will be travelling South on I-95. (Yes, I know that is not looking good right now...)

I just saw a forecast that has the Triangle area in the 8-12" of snow range, with ice mixed in. They are saying the worst of the ice will be in Ga. and S.C.

I haven't checked WRAL lately, but last time I looked they are sticking to their "trace to a dusting" forecast. Even saying most of the Raleigh area will get much of nothing, especially north of downtown. They are the ONLY ones being so conservative. Fischel even said yesterday, that "anyone expecting more was dreaming". I DO NOT trust them.

Maybe it's a passive aggressive thing based on the response they received from the last predictions/storm

That is for today's forecast, which is correct.

I watched Fischel last night. What he said was that it is impossible to predict things 72 hours out. He said that as the time grows closer that he would revise his forecast. He said that anyone who can "guarantee" the what the weather was going to be 72 hours in advance was lying (I remember this because he used that word, which is both accurate, and at the same time, not very diplomatic to his peers). It struck me as both odd and correct.

I watched Elizabeth Garner's noon forecast and she said most of the snow would be South of us for Tuesday, and for Wednesday (I quote) we are in for a "this will be a major winter storm...."

And my bias is that I wish it would go away. I usually love winter weather, but this time I'm trying to get out of town (and in the wrong direction at that!)

I just checked WRAL and they are sticking to the "little to no accumulation" for most of the Raleigh area today. Which may hold true. They aren't saying much about tomorrow, but have added "could be a significant storm" to tomorrow nights' forecast. They really should just come out and say it. Numerous other "models" have us getting hammered.

I think Greg Fischel is WAY too cocky. I'll never forget years ago, numerous people were calling in and reporting snow around the Triangle, and he sat there on TV and said that he had his doubts, wasn't likely, and he was seeing nothing on the radar to indicate it, and therefore didn't believe the reports to be true. I had driven through a brief snow shower about 30 minutes earlier myself...and knew hundreds or more, people had probably seen the same or similar snow.

I still can't get past their completely blowing the forecast, as close as an hour or two out, from the big storm of 2000. I worked nights, and watched the 6pm news to see what to expect for my drive to work, and home again in the morning. I was assured on the 6pm broadcast that the Triangle would see no accumulation, with nothing more than a dusting on grassy surfaces. I got to work at 7pm, and by 8pm the roads and parking lots were white. We got 20+ inches that night. That, is an utter and miserable failure, that did not coincide with some of the regional and national forecasters. I still don't trust them!

That's why I watch Fischel only. It looks like Wake has dodged bullet 1 and 2 on this one. I anxiously wait to see what he has to say at 5:00 this afternoon about round 3 tomorrow afternoon.
