I searched in the archives and there are no recent threads. I need to buy approximately 60 bales of pine straw. I was recommended a place in Cary that is an Auto & Truck repair? They are quoting around $4 a bale delivered. Is this good? Anyone uses them before?

This looks to be a good price. A lot depends on the length of pine straw. Lowes sells them for under 4$ if you go with small size and over 4$ for premium (longer size) straws.

Is it the place on 55 at green hope school rd? I've heard it's a good place.

Yes it looks like it's the one on green hope and 55. I have only used mulch before so called around to find who sells and delivers pine straw. Good to know someone has heard of them. I have no idea how to tell good pine straw vs bad. I think all of it is pretty terrible compared to mulch.

Can you share that phone number? I think I've used them before and I need some pine straw, as well.

Thanks!

Vicki

Bad pine straw will include pine cones, tree bark, sticks, and in really bad examples, trash. Also, short needle pine is less expensive than long needle pine. If you can get clean bales of long needle pine, delivered, for under $4.50/bale, then I consider that pretty good.

Can someone tell me the pros and cons of landscaping with pine straw? I love the look of it and live in an area high in clay soil and where it's very hard to grow any grass. How often does it need to be replaced, does it draw bugs/snakes? Any thoughts, pro or con please??

Has caused many minor fires to become tragic. Illegal within 10 feet of multi-family dwellings.
