So i've been on the job hunt to leave Charlotte for about 6 months. The more I look the more I think we will be coming to Raleigh. From feedback I've gotten I think I will leave the Franklinton and Louisburg areas alone. We may make a trip up this Sunday and do some more community touring just to see what we like.
Alright, so I have an opportunity in Wilson. I wouldn't want to live in Wilson though. If I took this opportunity, what is a good area on the East side of Raleigh to commute from? Keeping in mind we don't want an HOA, need some acreage, and of course the kicker, we are an interracial gay couple and don't want feel hated. :-)
It appears that other post disappeared..... Anyway.... Knightdale? Zebulon? Clayton? Any recommendations?
Have you looked on Google Maps?
Zebulon is the closest to Wilson, but it's also the most "country."
Knightdale is a bit less, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend either place to an interracial gay couple. Might you live there with no problems? Absolutely.
It's just hard to say.

Yes I have looked at google maps, not sure what you're getting at there. The maps don't tell me much about the people. I'd really like to stay inside a 40 mile range if I get this job. Unfortunately my work is never in a big metropolis, it's always out a ways. I currently work 60 miles outside Charlotte and commute it everyday! We are not very noticeable people, we don't fly rainbow flags, and I am certainly not out at work (as uncomfortable as that makes many questions/ events). I grew up in Carteret County so I know how inhospitable some Eastern Carolina folks can be. Maybe Smithfield/Selma or Clayton would be better choices. I know a few same sex couples that live in Garner and Clayton.

Clayton would probably be a better choice for acceptance. I do, however, know a lesbian couple who live in Wendell and enjoy it. Both are white, though.
ETA: Google Maps was about travel time. Sorry. Wasn't a snarky comment. Was just concerned about long commutes.

I gotcha! Yea, I was looking at the actually city data page for wendell, clayton, and smithfield and surprisingly they all have a higher reported percent of unmarried same sex couples than Raleigh itself. I realize that in smaller population areas, that it takes fewer results to raise the percentage, but I still found it relatively encouraging when in plenty of NC locales that percentage is zero! Also had someone suggest northeast of Raleigh but south of Louisburg...

I think you'd be opposed to such exposure to the nuke plant. I could easily be wrong, as I find myself in that way multiple times a day
good fishing on harris lake, nice wooded parks too
