lol...you would all love me :-)

maybe I should of wrote it in prose! lol It was just random thoughts. I was reading about the rude place that is no longer in Wake that served the best roast beef sandwiches and how rude they were?! That isn't how we ALL are! So then I remembered the comment about Rolesville!

I am a nurse in the city and take care of lots of immigrants! They always tell me they LOVE how I speak, they will never sound like "a real New Yorker" etc. It's great and I appreciate what they are saying!

One thing I notice when we are in Wake is that no matter which town, my daughters enjoy how friendly people are. When people speak to us, or THEM and are interested in what they are saying. That doesn't happen here. People do not just randomly talk to one another. It is something we are looking forward to.

Yep.

And just like going anywhere new....
Remember, most of us were granted TWO functioning ears and ONE functioning mouth. Used in that proportion, and favoring the TWO when in doubt, you will make friends just about anywhere.

+1 for that my friend

My wife is born and raised in the MD suburbs of DC. When we were down there last sat, she was speaking with someone and kept cutting her off.

On the drive back here to MD, i explained to her that the lady probably thought she was rude. She was perplexed

to her, she had just finished her thought, got her answer from the lady and moved on to the next topic...business as usual here in the DC area.

I told her she's got to watch that down here lol

let people finish their sentences lol

so I apologize in advance for the "rude" lady from DC...her heart is good, she just has to slow down her rate of speech

I once lived in Manhattan and have no issues about being accepted in Raleigh. My community is very diverse.

Now, some more rural areas are a bit clannish and northerners might prefer Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill where diversity is welcomed and, of course, Cary which is known as the Containment Area for Relocated Yankees.

There is also resentment from the large salaries paid many transplants that raise home prices and rents locking out the traditional middle class residents and their children. Most new apartments are owned by carpetbaggers charging yuppie rents and fees.

The influx of transplants has put a lot of unfunded strain on infrastructure passing more tax burden on existing residents.

All this combined with typical northern attitudes that "our way is the best" creates resentment which many times shows.

When we came to Wake in 1989 from New Orleans, our son's teacher was shocked when we told her the great feeling we had toward Wake schools. She explained how many transplants criticized everything and she had a hard time not asking them why they came to Wake.

Once in Target, two northern ladies loudly grumbled about how disgusting it was to live in Raleigh. I really wanted to tell them that there are roads, Amtrak., and airlines waiting to take them home.

As Tom Joyner once said on WPTF AM radio "Don't let the door hit you where the Lord split you".

You should do OK here and hope you won't regret your decision to leave Staten Island.

Talking to the older gentleman that runs the antique store right in the middle of Rolesville is one of my favorite experiences. My wife likes swinging by there about twice a year and I always wind up hanging out in front of the store chewing the fat with him. Just last month I'd joked with him about my accent that I sounded about as New York City as he did rural North Carolina. And the funny part is, I don't even think I have an accent.

I know jerks and rude people from nearly every state. I have really good friends from NJ and NY as well. In college, we had a large group of really close friends that were from Long island, Jersey, Va and small town NC. We got along great, and enjoyed picking on each other about our "differences". But we'd stick up for each other in a heartbeat.
