In several places I've lived, there were often homemakers that earned extra income by taking in other folks laundry. Does anyone know someone who does this?
I'm looking for an individual, not a laundromat (I know a few here offer wash and fold service).
Ya'll may smile, but this is how any number of service-based, work-from-home businesses start. The world comes down to money vs. time/talent. If you don't have the time/talent to do something, you pay someone else to do it.

How can this make a person money? They still have to use there water and power (electric or gas)...and if the OP doesn't want to pay business prices, I doubt they are going to an individual enough to make this worth their while.
If one doesn't have time to do laundry (because I do think most have enough talent to do it at least)....use a service....don't try and take advantage of someone (even if they can find someone).

I appreciate your judgmental and overly sensitive response. Thanks for taking the time to interpret my time, motive, and moral situation. Congratulations.
There are people who actively seek to do such a service because they want the extra income. It's not about taking advantage of someone or unwillingness to pay. Perhaps I'd rather employ an individual than a service because they do a better job? Perhaps I'd like to support individuals rather than large businesses?
Individuals doing laundry as a service is common in many areas and countries. I see no harm in asking the question here.

I know of no large laundry-mat corporation (though there may be) - most are privately owned by small businesses owners.
It's not at all common in this area for people to take in laundry...and as a home business, is probably illegal in many places unless they get the required permits, register as a business and pay taxes, have insurance etc etc....not to mention many HOAs have rules against home-based businesses. Which puts ig back as a small business owner.
So you are not only hoping that the person you want to use has actually thought this through enough that it's not costing them money (machine wear and tear, water and power) but also want them to break the law.
I don't understand why its such an unusual request?! There are lots of people offering household services incl. laundry on Craigslist.
