Default Just saw a coyote running down my street in Durham. Really. No kidding.

Now there may be those of you who don't believe me, but.... it's true. My husband and I just watched a beautiful coyote jogging down our street. We live in Southwest Durham off of Pickett Road in an older neighborhood that's heavily wooded. We've got lots of deer and possum, but this is the first coyote we've seen. And no, it was not a fox. We recently moved here from New Mexico and are very familiar with coyotes.

I've got two indoor-outdoor cats. I've told them not to get eaten. Not that that'll do much good. Ugh. But I guess the coyotes have to live someplace.

There's at least a few and maybe a bunch in Duke Forest, just up the road from you. Plenty of foxes as well. A neighbor also claims theres wolves, but I haven't seen one yet.

Did the Road Runner proceed the coyote? Do you have TWC in your area? Road Runner service has been known to lure unsuspecting coyotes away from the woods onto city streets. j/k couldn't resist! Oh yea if you find any open boxes with the word ACME on them you probable have a coyote in the area.

All kidding aside, that sounds pretty cool!

I don't know that I'd be able to identify one if I saw it. It took a few moments to register a fox the last time I saw one. Are they much bigger than foxes?

Default Yup!

We've seen coyotes around here, too. Unfortunately, one of them had been hit and killed by a car, out on Aviation Parkway, and was on the side of the road. We've seen a few foxes too. Neat, huh?

We have a lot of foxes around.
They are beautiful. One was living in a burrow under a huge median hedge in the middle of Crescent Commons Drive in Cary.

And, word to the wise: They are prone to rabies...

I heard them howling in the middle of the night last summer. Spooky sounding! But have never seen one around here. In the PNW, we had them walking up to our front porch !! That was before I learned never to leave kitty food out there.
