I May be working in downtown Raleigh and just wanted to know how long the commute would be to Breir Creek during rush hour. Also while house hunting, how far out can I go from downtown and still be less than 30 minutes during rush hour? just outside 440? close to 540? I'd like to stay in the N. Raleigh area and maybe Cary if that helps.

Thanks in Advance.

I don't drive that route and I'm sure others will chime in, but here's a link to streaming traffic so that you can monitor areas of interest at your time of interest.

20 min in no traffic, maybe twice that in rush hour. Lots of traffic on Glenwood near Crabtree and 440 and with so many stoplights, it can take quite a while to get through there. It has taken me 20 min to go from Glenwood Ave and Oberlin to the Crabtree Marriott around 5:30. Once you pass Creedmoor, it's not bad again until Millbrook then can be backed until Ebenezer Church and the airport/540 exit. Then more traffic again near Brier Creek.

Back roads aren't faster but there is less traffic. You might want to look at east Cary near 40 or 440 or N. Raleigh east of Crabtree. More options to cross Glenwood or take other routes heading downtown while avoiding Crabtree. I like northwest Raleigh and used to live between Brier Creek and Crabtree but I don't think I could face the Crabtree traffic anymore!

Brier Creek is definitely more than 30 minutes from downtown Raleigh. It probably would be better taking Wade/440 to 540 to get there though. If you have to travel out Glenwood, make sure you're staying in the left hand lanes.

Downtown to 440 is 10 minutes. Maybe 15 under odd circumstances.

It takes me 30 minutes to go from Brier Creek to Millbrook & Falls of Neuse Road. It's about the same whether I take Glenwood/70 or 540 and Six Forks down.

I live just North 540 off Leesville and my wife and I both commute daily to downtown for our jobs. It takes us about 40-45 mins to get downtown, in our parking deck, and then to our desk in the morning. We leave about 7:45-7:50 from our house. We do not take 540/40 at all, as it is more miles but takes about the same amount of time. Without traffic we can do it in about 30 mins. The drive isn't bad.

From Brier Creek it may knock off a couple mins, depending on where exactly you are in Brier Creek.

I live north of I-540 off of Falls of Neuse (just North of Durant Road). I work downtown and it takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes to get downtown. I take Litchford / Atlantic Avenue to downtown.

Neighborhoods like Bedford, Falls River, Durant Trails and those in the surrounding area will afford you a commute downtown within the 30 minute time frame.

Cary is about 15 minutes in no traffic, but much better than BC during Rush Hour IMHO. One caveat, is that the CRAWLEIGH project (repairing Southern Belt of (I40) will impact the next couple years. But in reality, that is temporary and will go away.

Also, from Cary you have more backroad options, I think, to get into DT
Tryon to Lake Wheeler, or S Saunders
Wade
440
etc...

Alsox2: "Cary" is a big area, East Cary is probably 15 minutes closer than West, so it's a 10-30 minute range, I think... I based it on where I live, which is not too far from Trader Joes....

That really depends. I have been in stop and go traffic on 440, going into 40 & Cary. I've rarely seen traffic that slow on 540, especially if you are doing a reverse commute and going east in the morning and west at night.

Work in DT Raleigh and live in Holly Springs and can usually make it home in about 30 minutes or less leaving work at 6pm. If I leave earlier that time can increase a bit, but not usually too bad. This is even further out than Cary, so shouldn't be a problem to be well under 30 minutes if you are in Cary.
