One particular person I happen to know who recently started at Cisco took 7 months from interview to job offer. Like I said, they move extremely slowly.

Conducting background checks in my industry is done before the offer is extended normally. Due to training dates sometimes backgrounds are done after being hired on but that normally isn't the case. I can't believe companies would offer employment without doing a background check first, that just seems cruel.

Some companies are using outsourced background checking companies. One in particular pegged someone I know for cocaine possession in a completely different state than they were living in, and at the age of 12. Fortunately it was worked out, but only after the individual contacted this company first and threatened legal action. How many people get turned down for jobs with bad background info? It seems the problem is even more widespread than inaccurate credit reports.

One thing that I always get a kick out of is looking at the different processes involved between various companies at the same level. Some interviews are "easy" and others are relatively "hard" but the end result tends to be the same.

That's an extreme case. A couple of weeks is more typical. During the hiring boom in the 90's interviews and offers were in the same week.

Including the need for the company to get your consent under the FCRA.

Maybe he got the offer and doesn't need us anymore. . . I guess we'll be here for moral support when the next layoff comes though.

Maybe he is afraid CISCO will see the post, get upset, and cancel offer.

Which is kinda weird because they surely extend offers to a variety of people all the time.

Hmm...

I don't see that happening from the Cisco side.

If it were me, I'd call. No harm done and it shows interest in the position.

Agree. At this point if the OP hasn't heard back, I'd call to inquire if I was her.

Even if Cisco did see the post how can they pinpoint it to this person anonymously on this forum. I highly doubt this is the only offer here local by Cisco.
