Have some friends making a special trip up here to shop at Trader Joes and Whole Foods. They want to eat lunch somewhere good to celebrate their birthdays. Can anyone recommend a good restaurant close to TJ or WF for lunch?

They mentioned Twisted Fork(I know it's not near TJ or WF). TF has good food but is a little overpriced for what you get.

Squid's seafood is right up the road on the right. That's the only recommendation I can make right in that immediate area. But CH is just 5 minutes up the road.

From Trader Joe's:
Across the street, Kildaire Farm Road, is Carrabbas Italian and also the Hibernian.
South on Kildaire Farm Road and Right on Tryon Road to Lucky 32.

Outback Steakhouse is in the next shopping center north from Trader Joe's, but it's always packed in the evenings, probably OK for lunch. There's also Bear Rock Cafe in the same shopping center as Outback (over in the corner) - really great sandwiches if you're looking for something less formal.

You may want to check whether the Outback Steakhouse is open for lunch first. I have a feeling they only open for lunch on Sundays.

Just up Kildaire Farm is Sushi Thai. If you like this type of food, this is a great place.

Rio Churrascaria at MacGregor Village (near Tryon and US 1) has a great lunch buffet during the week for around $10-15. All you can eat steak, chicken and sausage.
