Last month I was driving toward one of those radar signs, I was driving 35 MPH, as some vehicles started coming the other way it freaked out the radar and it jumped up to 47. There was nobody going that speed behind me or coming the other way. I wish I had my Dash cam on that day.
I recently got a traffic ticket in Chapel Hill and was advised to get a lawyer. Often you can get a free consult, where they will tell you how they can help you. Definitely DO NOT just pay the ticket. In the end the lawyer I talked to advised me just to represent myself. I did that and I got a Prayer for Justice Continued, which is something only done with NC driver's licences, I believe. It's intimidating the first time you get a ticket. You sort of don't know what to do. So I would tell you to first, talk to a lawyer about your situation and see if they can help you. They can deal with it for you (much easier, but more expensive) or you can try to represent yourself and get your ticket lowered to a lesser offense. There are a lot of good resources online as well. Since your situation is a bit different I'm not sure, so you should probably talk to someone individually. But even if you pay for a lawyer, it is better than the increase in insurance that you will get after that offense.
