I take my car to IMW for service, but when they quoted me $350 to replace the window regulator (I'm guessing $150 for the part and $200 labor), I decided to do it myself. Look where it got me. I need to go by IMW tomorrow anyway because I broke a $1 clip that holds a trim piece on.
I do plan to get another M, so perhaps I should just invest in this Android OBD tool that wheelsup recommended. Is that the "Torque" app?
So is that your subtle way of telling me to ask the world-wide automotive forum if anyone in Raleigh NC has an OBD tool can reset the SRS light in my car

It is. Ask around on the car specific web boards to see if it works on that car. I used it on a '95 + '99 Volvo, '98 Jetta, and '10 Prius but you never know. Also it might not clear SRS codes I would ask around. Sometimes those have to be done by a specific reader.

Don't feel bad, it could have been worse. A friend with this exact same car was replacing the window regulator and somehow misaligned the window. When he closed the door and it pressed up against the door frame, it shattered under pressure.
I always preferred the size and styling of the E46 M3 over the E92, despite it's raw power!
The only tool I had was ElmScan 5 which has done well so far..

I did some Googling last night and it seems that Torque (or most other OBD readers, for that matter) do not read/reset SRS codes. Most will only do engine/emissions type codes. The Peake tool that I mentioned earlier will do it, but it is a special tool for SRS and will not do engine/emissions.

Yikes. That thought was heavy on my mind when I finished the install and began testing it. Luckily it all worked well, with only the broken trim clip and the SRS light going wrong. Took me over 2 hours to complete the job. I then moved on and replaced one of the backup sensors in the rear bumper cover. That required removing the whole cover. I was happy when that went back together also.
I have a Peake code reader if that does the trick? I know it clears regular codes but sometimes the airbag systems are separate and not accessible.
Yeah. It's a separate tool. Thanks for volunteering to help. I knew if anyone had one it would be you.
I called IMW this morning and they offered to reset the light for me. I'm hoping "free" was implied. Hopefully I did not damage the side airbag and the light will stay off. I know that one of the little plastic clips on the connector broke off, but I doubt that it had any electrical significance.
Cool, good luck. If you ever need the other Peake let me know. I also have a full shop here at my house (tools, lift, air tools, etc) if you need. I'm pretty good at wrenching on E46, E39, etc.
