Looks like they are clearing fields and the woods and laying a pipeline on Umstead off of Guess Rd all the way through to Cole Mill Road.

Appears like they are doing the same along St. Mary's to Hillsborough.

Rumor has it that Duke Energy is involved and this is a plan to offer homeowners natural gas. However, the pipes quite large and seem quite a ways from any neighborhoods. It's just farms here and there.

Anyone know what's really going on?

They've been laying pipeline along Eubanks, Mt Sinai and Friends School/Herman Church for a year now. It is a dedicated high pressure line to feed Duke University's power plants, which converted from coal to gas.

I suspect that what you are seeing is part of the same system.
