I'm looking for feedback on the Berkeley neighborhood in Cary. Anyone live there or know anyone that lives there and how they feel about it?

Thanks in advance!

Great location
Low turnover=happy residents
Well built homes now reaching the point in time where HVAC/roof/kitchens are at the point of either cosmetic or functional obsolescence
If you are not hung up on new construction Wellseley/Berkeley are really lovely. They have actual trees in there and you can't reach out the window and touch your neighbors' house.

Thanks!

Yes, it's the broken in feel of the neighborhood and the lot size/feel that we like... we love Wellsley but the homes there tend to be < 3000 square feet and we're looking for more space/a first floor master and/or guest room.

Wondering if there are kids in the neighborhood despite the lack of a pool?

There are kids in the neighborhood. I didn't look there because I wanted a pool. Not sure if it's in your price range but Berkeley is attached to somerset and they DO have a pool.

Most houses in wellsley have a walk up 3rd floor if that interests you for adding space.

Brookstone also has houses over 3000 square feet.

The Reserve on the other side of NC55 will also have what you want but will be priced higher I believe.

We live in that corridor and love it!

Thanks for the ideas!

For Wellsley - we have elderly guests and small kids so for now the walk up space just doesn't help us very much. No one is walking up to that third floor. I've thought about and researched additions, but in the end it seems like a great neighborhood with houses that just don't match our needs. Bummer.

We're trying to stay with schools that are more north than those in Brookstone for commute purposes... so that's out.. though otherwise, like the neighborhood. The Reserve and Somerset do have houses within our price range but we might have to wait a while for one to come available.

Berkeley is great, except for the pool thing. I think. Unless someone tells me otherwise.

We absolutely love that area. We live west of there now and always find ourselves driving in to the Davis Dr area. Plus, you're still close to 55 for commute/shopping purposes.

Berkeley just seemed "meh" to me without the pool. But a pool was really important to us.

How about Riggsbee Farms or Carramore? Both feed into GHE. Carramore's homes are probably bigger.

Definitely. Carramore has very little character to me for some reason (just too new?), but I love Riggsbee Farms. Keeping an eye on homes there, too.

And yeah, I get it. I grew up with a pool and I just can't decide where I land on the whole pool thing. I loved having one but what am I willing to give up to get it? I don't think I want to move out of town more. We used to drive 45-50 min each way before we moved to NC and we're fighting for every 5 minutes we can get that commute down.

Have you looked in Whitebridge? you can find homes with 3000+ even some with walkout basements. The neighborhood has a pool, no swim team.

Interesting... no, I'd never heard of Whitebridge. Thanks.

It is a small neighborhood off Davis Drive, just south of High House, close to the other neighborhoods you have been looking at.
