Apartments with 18'+ High Ceilings?
I hate the boxy feeling of most apartments. Some of my favorite apartment designs are the ones where the bedroom or loft overlooks the living room, giving it a cathedral look, similar to the pics below. Is anyone familiar with apartments like these in Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Chapel Hill area that are under $800.00 (or close) a month? Other places with extremely high vaulted or cathedral ceilings would also do... The pictures below are from a complex in Raleigh, unfortunately the place has several lawsuits against it thanks to shady ownership , so I will not be moving there. Thanks.

Although I have not been in them myself, I've been told that West Village apartments in downtown Durham have very high ceilings and some lofts. But they are expensive.

My sister lives in Brook Arbor in Cary and they have vaulted ceilings on the 3rd level. Fireplaces also.

Those are so gorgeous. there are complaints about soundproofing on apartmentratings.com but if not for that and the price I'd live there for sure!

Thank you to everyone so far, and yes, I ran across those in my apartment hunting. They rock, and I would so be in them in a heartbeat... if my salary was double what it was right now . I love that revitalized warehouse loft style apartment, unfortunately every one I have ever seen looks to be drastically overpriced, for whatever reason. You would think that some of these developers building these newer complexes would catch on to what people really want and start building more places like them...
Reminds me of these, back in Cleveland:

how expensive? they don't seem to say, but if they're for rent, and under 1500 for a 3-bedroom, i'd live there in a second. that place looks awesome inside!

The higher the ceiling, the higher the construction costs, so don't be surprised that for the most part, apartments with soaring ceilings will have corresponding rents.

I live in one, and i really like it.
Camden at Lake Pine in Apex. Closer to $1,000, though.

There's another way to play this game. Maybe what you hate about most apartments is the claustrophobic sense that they give you. You might try apartment buildings that have many windows. Perhaps that will relieve the closed-in feeling and will probably be in your price range too. I remember living in the apartments in Woodcroft (Woods Edge) and they have cathedral ceilings and big big windows. If you got one facing the trees, it is almost like living in the forest.
