I'm about to move there (and my mom lives there now) and we're both Italian. We've sampled many pizza places but can't seem to find any that are much better than chain variety.

Any suggestions? My mom lives in Apex.

Cheers,
R

There's a New York pizza place in the Bass Lake shopping center at the corner of Bass Lake Road and Holly Springs Road in Holly Springs - just up 55 from Apex. They have good calzones!

Try Cinelli's. They're located in Cary on Kildaire Farm. Order a "Grandma's Brick Oven"

There are other "Cinelli" chains in RTP, and NC as a whole:

Yum.

(PS: I am a NY Italian born in Italy, if that helps give weight to my recommendations)

J & S... one in Apex and one in FV. The best I've had in this area. New York Pizza in Holly Springs is pretty good too as another poster mentioned. I also agree with Cinellis. HTH!

New York Pizza also has a location on NC55 in the Harris Teeter shopping center at the corner of High House Road, and another in the Lowe's Foods shopping center @ the corner of Tryon and Cary Parkway.

Not the best pizza I've ever had, but definitely good stuff.

Another suggestion is J&S New York Pizza-in Apex they are in the Em'R Wings shopping center on NC55 about a mile north of US1, and they have a new location down in Fuquay. That's the best slice I've had around here, although I wouldn't recommend their atmosphere-it's basically a pretty dumpy pizza joint.

The fuquay location is much nicer and has real seating as it's brand new. However, they are soooo busy most of the time that service can be sketchy and take a long time. It's worth it if you're patient though, because it is the best I've had in this area, also.

Try a Slice of New York in Briar Creek. The quality is good enough but they have an awesome selection of counter pies which is unusual for the area.

We went there a few weeks ago and I wasn't too impressed. It really is a "pretty dumpy pizza joint". I might consider it if I lived nearby for takeout, but I doubt that we'd ever go back. . . no matter how "authentic" it is.

Also, I would not recommend the pizza place in Cary (Cary Pkwy and Tryon) in the same shopping center as the Lowes Foods store. Their food may be good, but I'll never know, because they messed our order up (we said "dine-in" and they wrote down "take-out") and let our pizza sit in a box for 30 minutes before they discovered it was ours.

Randy's on S. Miami - others will chime in on this soon! Probably as close to home as you can get.

Best advice in this thread. The Randy's in RTP is great. Don't get it confused with the other Randy's that are in the area either, this one is much much better.

New York Style Pizza...
