The Panthers are also my high school mascot.

I like hockey, so I used to go to the Panthers games in FL and now the Hurricanes games since I moved to NC. When someone asks me if I am a 'Canes fan I still think of UM though.

Please enlighten me. I've lost all familiarity with schools in Dade County. The only one I know the mascot for is South Miami Senior--the cobra. The cobra on the school is the same one that used to be on the Serpentarium. But they had to make a few repairs on it (the snake that is) because it broke while being transported. Oh and Braddock High--used to be the second largest high school in either the east or all of the US (not sure). Had over 6,000 students. No idea how many schools had to be built to relieve that one.

And oddly enough, my daughter's elementary school mascot is the panther. They've even "adopted" the panther that's at Palm Beach Zoo.

I think about UM too when I hear the 'Canes here!

Desdemona25 - I moved from Ft Lauderdale 2 years ago and the traffic here is NOTHING like it there. The traffic at least moves and not a parking lot.

What part of Lauderdale? I grew up in Cooper City.

Thanks for giving me some hope about the traffic. Right now, I work about 8 miles from home and that sometimes takes almost 30 minutes. And it's all within the same city! Since the initial post, I'm now looking more towards the Clayton area.

We've got ACC all throughout the family. I went to UM (didn't graduate), my sister goes to FSU (graduating this year hopefully) and I married a Hokie whose parents are originally from Roanoke. We so wanted to buy my inlaws tickets for the game but couldn't swing it. Because of them, my daughter has an official Tech cheerleader uniform.

Lived in Davie, worked in Boca. Nice to have your daughter cheering for the Hokies My husband is from Blacksburg and luckily we have made a good amount of games. I know my friend sells his extra tickets (rarely) on stubhub.com

I do have to chime in about the school shuffle. I live in Wakefield and a bunch of my neighbors have talked of some of the woes about the redistricting with the overcrowding. I don't have kids yet so I don't know, but I do hear a lot on the news that overcrowding is bad and is going to get worse.

Traffic redeux - One thing I do have to mention is that FL had more highways than here. There are 2 "major highways" and the rest are stop and go traffic lights. Rush hour is a bit of a pain if you're in WF and have to travel along Capitol or Falls of the Neuse, but it's bearable. Kind of like coming off the Sawgrass Expressway onto Glades (point of reference).

Palmetto Senior High... in what is now "The Village of Pinecrest", next to "Palmetto Bay". They all formed nice little Disney type villages (custom coloful street signs and plaques) during the boom. Its south of Miami in the Cutler Ridge over by the Falls Shopping area.

I remember South Miami Senior, had a few friends there when I went to UM. The campus keeps getting nicer, they have a whole lot of money... it was a great three years over there, even if I tossed my degree out the window

Thanks for the info! It's much appreciated.

I'm semi-familiar with the area. While at UM I went shopping at The Falls a few times. Once I get past Dadeland, I'm only familiar with some of the major streets. Just don't ask me to find the nearest McDonald's or something like that.

I tried to get a job at UM so that I could continue my education, but no dice. Didn't have enough office experience for them at that point in my life. Tried their temp pool but the work wasn't consistent enough. So, the dream died. Oh well! One of these decades I'd like to finish my degree just so that I can say that I finished it.

Crazy ! Those kids should be going to WFRHS !!! (Which is an excellent school - I'd pick it in a heartbeat over Wakefield)

Which parts of Heritage are zoned Knightdale? I've heard many of the new subdivisions in WF.. Stonegate, Bishops Grant, etc. are zoned KHS.
