27518 - will I meet my neighbors?
Looking to buy a house, our realtor is suggesting the 27518 zip code - for example, Danbury or Cambridge neighborhoods in Regency Park. What is the neighborhood feeling? Will we meet anyone or do people just come home from work and close the garage door? We have two young kids.

Is the deafening silence my answer? Or perhaps everyone is enjoying the holiday weekend & the Pats-Giants game.
A little help please!

We lived in this zipcode, in the Highlands West section of Lochmere in Cary (back when there was no 27518 and the area was part of 27511). I found the area too be "stuck up". In a way. I think we were on the one street where we were the minorty in having kids. Lots of empty nesters in that area, and they seem to get very easily annoyed. I remember my son getting scolded by a neighbor who was waling her dog (without a leesh) for "teasing" the dog when he was playing with his remote control car in the street And the worst would have to be our next door neighbors, at least the wife. My daughter literally put ONE FOOT in the corner of her yard one day when she was walking home from the bus stop after school, and the lady came and knocked on the door and with a stern voice said "I'd really appreciate it if you wouldn't "trample my grass". If fences were allowed in Lochmere, I would have gladly built one that day. Then again this is just one subdivision we are talking about here and you really can't judge a whole zipcode by one subidivision.

My suggestion would be to drive around and TALK to the neighbors. You'll always get the scoop, along with the good AND the bad from the neighbors. Most people are friendly and happy to speak with anyone considering moving into their neighborhood.

For past posts on 27518, you can use the "Search This Forum" feature in the top right hand corner. Put in the zip code (27518) and then click on posts. I skimmed the posts that popped up, and I do remember seeing the words "block party." I didn't read the entire thread, but maybe it's just what you're looking for.
Also, if you have zeroed in on a certain subdivision in Cary, like MacGregor Downs for example, putting in the word MacGregor will pull up those past posts.
Trying to help. Good luck!

You will see the range of behavior, depending on the individual neighbor. If you are fortunate, you will have a couple of neighbors make the first overtures to meet.
It is common for folks to respect your privacy, and many will wait for a sign that you are receptive to meeting.
If you take the initiative to meet the people on your street, indicating openness to interaction, I think generally you will be rewarded with a warm reception.

Your question really can't be answered. No one here knows who your neighbors will be...some may be great, others less then stellar.
There is NO WAY to predict that based on a zip code.

I live in the 27518 zip code but a little farther south than Lochmere. There are two subdivisions next to each other and both seem to have lots of kids and some friendly families. That being said, on our cul de sac there is one very friendly, two who wave in passing, and one who won't answer the doorbell. I agree with the previous poster, it varies from one to another.

We live in 27518 south of Lochmere and have found the people in our neighborhood to be very nice overall. I think every neighborhood has those people who are stuck up/aloof/odd. Drive through the neighborhoods at varying times of day/night to see what you think. Try to find residents of the neighborhoods you can talk to as well.

We just moved to Cambridge in September and have found this neighborhood to be super friendly. You will definitely meet your neighbors! Within one week of moving in, we received three different baskets of homemade goodies from neighbors, and two other families knocked on our door to introduce themselves. There are tons of kids here, and everyone is outside walking their dogs and friendly. I have three kids under the age of 5, so that was important to me. Halloween was a real community event, the cul-de-sac in back of us even passed out candy as a group. And everyone was "boo-ing" each other in the neighborhood. There are community-organized holiday events for the kids here too. We've moved three times in 9 years of marriage and this is by far the friendliest neighborhood we've ever lived in!
I will say that I have a few other "newcomer" friends that just moved to town and moved into brand new neighborhoods (Carpenter Village in Cary, and Park at West Lake in Holly Springs) and they seem to have more social events, like wine parties and book clubs and even organized play groups for the kids. I guess because everyone's new in those neighborhoods, they are apt to be even more social.
We have had no problem making friends here. All in all, we love this area and would totally recommend it!
