A friend is suffering severe pain due to neuropathy in the feet - as a result of chemo. The pain is chronic, severe and debilitating. My friend is unable to take adequate amounts of pain medication due to other health concerns. Does anyone have a recommendation for physician/pain management specialist in the Triangle? Thanks, much appreciated!

I'm sorry your friend is having such bad side effects from the chemo.
2 members of my family have been to Dr. Shrimanker at Carolina Pain Consultants and I would recommend trying him.
Hopefully your friend can get some relief.

In all honesty, get them some marijuana. Not just to vaporize, but also edible form. This works better for most with this type of chronic pain than your traditional pharmaceutical toxins that MD's will give out.

I am not certain pain meds are answer anyhow. Their oncologist should be able to recommend a complimentary provider who can offer relief. There are alternative medicine therapies as well as non pain meds they could try. I wish them well.

I am interested in this subject for myself, although I do not live in NC. Is it legal there?

No, medical marijuana is not legal in NC, with one exception.

North Carolina joins states allowing limited medical marijuana | Reuters

That recent exception gives me hope that it will be legalized for more medical uses soon.

That is great for people with seizures, but people like the OP's friend and me could greatly benefit if they would allow it for debilitating chronic pain.

OP, what about acupuncture? That is next up on my long list of treatment options. I know what your friend is dealing with and I hope a solution is found soon.
