Hey folks. I did a search for sushi and I found a thread from Nov that discussed sushi restaurants in Raleigh and as such it didn't help me. Can anyone provide me with recs for a good sushi restaurant in Durham? A friend of mine mentioned Shiki Sushi on NC 54 in SW Durham as a place that his girl loves. If anyone is familiar with that place or any other good sushi restaurant in SW Durham please let me know.
I agree with Shiki Sushi.....another good place off of 54 but closer to the intersection of 54 and 55 is Akashi Sushi. They have 50% off ALL sushi ALL day and it's really good. I recommend the Furious Dragon or the Atomic Roll (I like spicy)

Thanks for the recommends. I like spicy as well. Everything that I've been reading(reviews) say Akashi or Shiki. I read that Shiki has the buy one roll get the second roll free and the 50% off at Akashi sounds good. It seems that folks have had a problem with the service at Shiki but they seem to like the new decor. I'll be a taking a woman on a 4th date to one of these places so I'm looking for a good combo of price, atmosphere and service. I'm leaning towards Shiki. Out of the two, based on the things I mentioned including the date part of things, which would you recommend? Thanks for your help.

Shiki has a better date atmosphere especially in the Sushi Bar section (dimmer lights, better drink selection in beers and sake) but for the food and price I prefer Akashi. Great service, fresh Edamame and of course the 50% Sushi which is already well priced. For a date I say Shiki but for lunch or friends I would say Akashi. The unfortunate thing is that both are in strip malls off the beaten path somewhat. Neo China in Durham as well as The Twisted Noodle are great Asian places....no sushi but really good food also for future reference.

Thanks. I just went by Shiki to check out the menu and the decor and I think you're right in terms of it being good for a date. The young lady at the front gave me a order sheet that she allowed me to take home and it says that it's but one get on free so that is good. The place is somewhat off the beaten path in a strip mall as you mention. It was really hard to find the place because I drove by it twice before I finally found it. I think Shiki is where I will take her.
I've had take out 3 times from Neo China in Durham (5 mins from my place) and it's the best chinese I've had in my year here in Durham. It's def on my list for future dinner dates. Haven't been to The Twisted Noodle. I've read that Penang in Chapel Hill is also a good Asian place.

You might like to try Orient Garden, which is across the street from Shiki next to the Kroger. IMO it's much better than Neo. We went to Neo for Christmas dinner and were so disapppointed as Orient Garden is our regular stop for excellent Chinese food. OG wasn't open on x-mas or we would have gone there. Not necessarily date atmosphere, but the food is tons better...
We also like Kurama in Durham (heads over Kanki) and their early bird special can't be beat! $27.95 for two for shrimp, chicken, and a huge steak, soup, salad, and shrimp appetizer.

Orient Garden!!!! That's the name of the other place....by the Kroger off of 54. Very good as well. Disappointed by their Egg Rolls and crunchy noodles that accompany soups (big deal to me) but still very good food.
