My son is graduating this year and I am wondering how long the average graduation ceremony lasts in WCPSS. I looked at last year's graduation schedule and see that they were scheduled four hours apart. I am hoping the answer is less than an hour, but am sure that is wishful thinking.

They name all the graduates and that alone takes about an hour in schools this size. I think more like 2 hours.

You're worried about a few hours of your life roughly 6 months from now?

Ummmm. Way more than 30 minutes. 2 hours or so is a good estimate.

My eldest son's graduation from GHHS was in 2008 and held in Reynolds Coliseum. Middle of the day. In June.

Any idea how hot Reynolds is then?

Very.

Every graduate deserves their moment. They tend to be about two hours.

Maybe they should just email the diplomas to the students. For some of these kids it may be the biggest recognition of their lives. It is nor too much to sit there and watch them get their diploma.

Now that class sizes are so large, I wish they'd can the guest speaker and stick to comments from the principal, valedictorian, and salutatorian. That would make for a nice ceremony without extra length. The focus really should be on the students, anyway. It's their day.

Two hours from when you first get into the auditorium until the ceremony is over. Add another thirty minutes (at least) beforehand waiting in line and another thirty minutes after to find your graduate, take the pictures, have them find all their friends and then get out.
