There are a number of ideas and proposals on the table. For the redevelopment of the Stone Warehouse east of DT Raleigh. The City has struggled over the years to figure out what to do with this property. With all the development in the surrounding area. The question what should the city do with the property come up once again. What would be the best benefit for the surrounding neighborhood? What would be the best overall use of the property? The City has gone on and on back and forth for years. It's time to make a decision one way or the other IMO.

Excellent question. I drive past there everyday and had no idea about the proposals but joke with my SO that yep South Park, gentrification is coming to you. There is great debate on this forum about downtown Raleigh and affordable housing. This decision will speak volumes. Just off the top of my head I am betting that nothing will be geared to low income anything. Really Weaver Market as an example to provide grocery shopping for the current inhabitants. Then the whole idea of using the after sale funds to help other parts of the community improve.Hold your breath on that one. I have a feeling the idea is for South Park Raleigh to look more like South Park the cartoon in the future. Mixed feelings even for myself....

I sure hope they pay back the $300K in federal funds they got for the purpose of affordable housing.

I don't know why they don't take the $2MM, or whatever the highest price they can obtain, and let the parcel go. Go find a nearby parcel they already own, or condemn enough ramshackle properties so they can build a 6-10 story tall building, have it subsidized by this sale, and spend some more from the Raleigh Housing Authority budget.

I lived a block east of Stone warehouse from 1990-98. I remember what that place area used to look like. A real S hole. Anything and everything was going on there. The city has really cleaned it up. So I give them a little credit for that.

I'm not sure what they should do going forward. I can say high end anything will not serve the surrounding community. If the do sell. Whatever is developed there should be for everyone. Not just the new hipsters moving in. If it's something for everyone. Then the city takes the proceeds of the sale, and builds something more affordable. Maybe in the same area it can be a win win. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I have mixed feelings about gentrification. I have been the first wave, artists urban pioneer etc and also been a victim of the next wave of yupsters. Its an odd feeling to be priced out of an area you feel you had a hand in making better.

This is a nice rendering of one of the proposals. It looks pretty good.
