I live in WF and a client is staying in DT Raleigh tonight (at the Sheraton) and we are meeting for a business breakfast tomorrow (Dec 27). I had thought about Big Ed's but I am wondering if it is too casual. Where would you suggest? I want a place that is really good, but quiet enough that we can talk.

That's not Big Ed's. Why not eat in the hotel restaurant?

Joule coffee downtown would be my pick. They are more of a restaurant then a coffee house. It's also a very "Raleigh thing to do" largely due to its famous owner ,local award winning chef Ashley Christensen. All of her establishments are first class.
Sunday has many more options because most of the restaurants have a brunch deal. Not so sure about Saturday. Check out Joule menu online and see what you think. Let us know where you went and how it was. Restaurant reviews are popular on here.

Oh snap, if you don't mind going a hop, skip from downtown. Try Tupelo Honey Cafe or Flying Biscuit at Cameron Village. Both serve breakfast on Saturday.I do still think Joule is more professional rather then casual of the 3 recommended.

I would definitely go to Joule, because they can walk there if you/they want.

I haven't been to Tupelo Honey yet, but last Saturday, in the rain, there was a crowd of people waiting in the entryway.

I've held business meetings at Joule several times.

If they like good food and good coffee, Joule is your spot.

Tupelo Honey isn't the same as asheville, it's lost its charm in the new spot. Feels like a chain.

I went to Tupelo Honey a few weeks ago. The food was only so-so, the service was terribly slow, and the wait was an hour and 50 minutes. No thanks!

Yep, disappointing. Never would I have thought that tupelo honey would be right down the road without me itching to go. It's not the same, unfortunately.

What is different about it? Food quality, service, ambiance? I have family in TN that rave about the Johnson City location. I have never been but was planning on it. I can't help but wonder if its the same, but because it isn't in the mountains of Asheville it seems different. There are places I love at the beach but would probably only rank so-so if they were here in Raleigh. It's not actually any fault with the restaurant but just my state of mind. It's just a possibility.
