I am troubled by the open hatred, stereotyping and discrimination spewing from the mouth of Franklin Graham.

Is Duke a "Christian" school? I saw that reported on NBC, which makes this entire thing confusing.

Most Private Universities have religious affiliation, to one extent or another. It has ties with the United Methodist Church (not exactly a controversial or hard line Church.) Duke does have a Divinity School, founded and supported by the United Methodist Church.

Franklin Graham and so many of the news commenters, ugh.

He put out a call for people to tell Duke sponsors to withdraw donations.

Would they play church bells from a minaret? The schools not stopping the call to prayer, just the location the sound comes from. I think that should make both sides happy.

I see your point, but would "they" do it if more places like Duke took the first step toward doing it?

Maybe.

That's really the point. If nobody ever tries to be inclusive of all religions in what is arguably a secular setting, then why would anyone?

Not saying they should do one thing or another... just wondering if maybe Duke had their hearts in the right place and the bullying displayed by Franklin Graham (who is a topic for another thread entirely) was 100% warranted in this case.

Perhaps, a thoughtful dialog ala "can we play this from someplace else on campus, perhaps?" would have been a more peaceful option.

Duke should never have proposed this in the first place. Then they announce it without putting it through some sort of focus group. Then they reverse it.

Bozo decisions all the way around.

Now they're a soft target.

It's like poking a really angry, hurting, trapped bear with a pointy stick.

Bad timing with everything happening in France & Nigeria. Not to mention the interview given by one of the leaders of the Divinity school was terrible. The way they phrased things I could see why some may have concerns. But then again Duke has a history of not doing so well with PR.
