I've seen LOTS of posts re LGBT-Triangle...but nothing 'specific' to AfAm LGBT...or 40+ers. I'd like to know if there ARE any older black lesbians in the area...and if so, where? Thanks!

Reason: typos
I know just a couple of black lesbians in the area & they live in Durham. I hear that the lesbian population is of a fairly good size in Durham (& there are some lesbian clubs there, too), but I can't really speak from personal experience.
I'll check out the links. Durham, huh? (sigh)...I didn't like the parts of Durham I saw (ugly)...I liked North Raleigh...and have lots of recommendations to check out CH/C....well....if I ever actually feel 'social', I guess I can drive...I DO have a GPS! Thanks!!
I would suggest you live wherever you like (North Raleigh or whatever) and just be open to meeting people in other areas like Durham and Chapel Hill. It's really not very far.
I think that much of the gay/lesbian community in N Raleigh is kind of quiet compared to downtown Raleigh or in Chapel Hill. Of course, N Raleigh is a HUGE area and my experience could be just my small area of it. My impression is that people aren't hiding the fact that they are gay but the numbers just aren't as great in my area of N Raleigh. I don't know about AA lesbians in my neighborhood but I know that there are several gay families with and without kids as well as singles.
I agree with Lamishra that if you like North Raleigh you should live here and seek out the LGBT community once you're here. Maybe at first you will find just the larger communities or hangouts but eventually you'll find the community near you.
After more than a quarter century of living OUT - in NY, Boston, Baltimore, DC and Atlanta....I have learned that, for one moving to a new area --with no contacts/intros, connecting with the AfAm LGBT area community is no simple task...I was hoping there might be organizations or local websites for/about same in the Triangle (the Triangle.org page for POC is 'coming soon'). I am not concerned with LIVING where POC LGBT live....just finding them once I get there.
I am almost 30 and Jamaican American. My partner identifies as black. We have lived in Durham for about five years. I do see some African American lesbians in the younger age group and at Visions. In the 40+ crowd, I see alot of caucasian people. I have never had a sense that the LGBT community does a great job of connecting the community together.
Trianglegrrls is a great way to meet people. I started with one friend/couple through there. Of course that couple has since broken up. Through them we have met all of our friends. I would recommend posting your question there as well to see if you get a response.
I don't go to church but the imani mcc seems to have a great group of african american members.
I second the church. That will probably be your best bet.
There is also another organization called, "SWOOP" (it stands for something, not quite sure what) for the 40+ crowd. They do alot of volunteer work if I remember correctly, but its a great place to meet women.
About a decade ago, I recall another organzation for african american lesbians that also met up quite a bit. I dont remember the name of it, but there was quite a few members. I'm sure if you check on the Triangle Grrls page, you can probably ask around.
Good luck!
