We're originally from Chicago and just moved from LA. We are looking for sushi, Italian, deli and pizza. Any suggestions?

There is another thread about Sushi in Durham but depending on where you are you can go to Kachin in Cary (crossroads plaza), Sushi Thai in Cary, Shiki Sushi in Durham off of 54 near Southpoint Mall or Akashi in Durham near the crossing of 55 and 54.

Well, as far as I know, the odds of trying to find pizza around here or anywhere in the Carolinas which could be considered nearly equal to what one finds in Chicago is impossible. I've been trying for 10 yrs. No luck. If someone could clue me in, I would appreciate it.

The closest thing I've found to Chicago pizza was in the Northeast, in New Hampshire and upstate New York. If you have any info, please let me know.

Thanks for the replies! I will search the site for other threads.

We would order deep dish pizza from Lou Malnati's from Chicago when living in LA; four pizzas sent overnight on dry ice for about $70. I know this type pizza doesn't exist outside of Chicago so we are looking for suggestions on thin crust.

Again, I'll search the existing threads.

What you have found is similar to what most transplants have found.....there is nothing like the original. MD Crabcakes, Philly Cheesesteaks, NY Pizza, Chicago Pizza, CA Bread etc...... You will be hard pressed to find any of the above EVEN if the people making the replicas are from the original area. There are other factors other than ingredients. Good luck though

For sushi in Raleigh, Waraji ( on duraleigh?) is pretty good- my hubby is japanese and he likes it - theres also a place ( that hubby owned long time ago) at the corner of hillsborough and ..oh now I cant remember- but its right next to Arbys on HIllsborough street that is good as well.

the place on hillsborough is Sushi Tsunai I believe ( hope I'm spelling it right! lol)

For pizza (again dh's recommendation) is a small pizza place by Best Buy on Glenwood- not in the strip that best buy is in, but in the one on the other side of their parking lot. I've never been there, but he likes it - apparently you have to eat it with a fork! ( not sure if thats good or bad, lol) . Sorry, I dont know the name....

For Italian I recommend Cassalinga's in Raleigh (in Mini City on Capital Blvd across from Sam's/Target/Lowe's/etc.)

I know what ya mean - gotta have that Chicago thin crust pizza! Satisfaction in Durham makes a pretty good pizza. They've been here for years in Brightleaf square and I heard the owner is from Chicago. Also Mellow Mushroom by the Durham ballpark is quite good too.
