Has anyone ever tried the individual or group swimming lessons at Healthtrax? My SO wants to take lessons, but wasn't terribly impressed with the instructor after speaking with him on the phone.
I think lessons are also provided at the Y, but we're not members. We have a couples membership at Healthtrax and would prefer that the lessons be offered there.
Never judge a fitness instructor from a phone call. Telemarketing skills are something else entirely, and most people running a business that aren't telemarketers get phone calls from about 30 people for every 1 person who is actually interested enough to do something other than pick up the phone. Fitness seekers in general expect someone to motivate them to workout over the phone which is impossible in itself.
What I would recommend is take a class and see how you like it. If taking one class requires some sort of major financial commitment to several classes, reject it and tell them to get stuffed, that you'd prefer to pay as you go and would be interested in package discounts only if you decide you like it.
Just FYI, you don't have to be a member at the Y to take swimming lessons there. The cost is a little higher, but at least the option is there. I took two sets of lessons at the Cary Y and was happy with the experience. It's a group lesson but they split you up based on ability and have multiple instructors.
