Considering the move to the area for a new job. My son plays competitive youth hockey, are there any hockey clubs in the area and what are the various programs like in the area? Thank you for the responses.
Where you are moving from will likely impact what you think of local hockey programs. Here are a few to check out. RYHA (junior Hurricanes), East Coast Eagles, Carolina Lightning. There's also a great skills development program, Prime Time Hockey (they work with players from any organization and at all different levels). Hope that helps get you started. PM me if you have more questions. I spend more time than I'd like to calculate at the rink.
Yes, tons of competitive hockey around. I also spend my life at the rink with my kids in travel hockey. The biggest issue around here is that we have so many teams the talent is really diluted which makes it harder to compete. I think there were 13 squirt teams this year. Feel free to PM me as well with questions. We did 5 seasons with RYHA but we have been with the East Coast Eagles for the last two years and that is a better fit for my family.
We are moving from St. Louis, and my son currently plays for the Affton Americans, but is in the 8U program and will be moving up to squirts next season. Here in STL we are locked into a certain club based upon zip code. Are you free to select which ever club in the area you want to play for?
You can play for any club you choose. They hold tryouts for squirt for all the travel clubs. So, it depends on what teams your son is selected for. Tryouts are coming up soon, when are you moving?
We also have house league teams, through the polar ice house. These are non travel.
yes, tryouts are early here. For the Eagles they will start Friday May 1st and go until Monday or Tuesday. 3 tryouts during that span. The other orgs are usually around the same time. They will likely do supplemental tryouts closer to fall though for new kids in the area.
RYHA just announced their plans for next year too. They are going with 6 squirt teams and 5 peewees so the dilution continues. Their tryouts are the same weekend as the Eagles again as well. I feel bad for kids who tryout for both, makes for a long weekend!
Shellsd and others - what made you choose the Eagles over RYHA or vice versa?
