Has anyone bought furniture from pottery barn?
I was at the pottery barn at crabtree(I think it was crabtree mall) and really liked one of the display sofas. Has anyone had any experience with the quality of pottery barn? If I'm going to spend almost 2,000 on a sofa it better last me a long time. It doesn't have to last 30 years but 5-10 years would make me happy How do the cushions(foam) hold up?

I like Pottery Barn as well. When it came to choosing a sofa, we compared Pottery Barn to Ethan Allen. We went the Ethan Allen route. I don't remember all the details, but have been extremely happy with our purchase. Perhaps you can see if Ethan Allen carries a similar model and compare.

This has been discussed in House forum here at City-Data and IIRC, most people felt it was overpriced for the quality. I don't think anything is wrong with the stuff at PB. Seems a bit overpriced, but I don't see a lot of options in that particular style here in the Raleigh-Durham area.
In contrast, most of the furniture stores I visited in the SF Bay Area this past Xmas (I was shopping for my parents) had significantly lower prices and the same contemporary-comfortable style featured at Pottery Barn.

Try a Pottery Barn outlet. I've known people to furnish entire rooms from trips to the outlet.

For whatever it's worth, my wife loves Pottery Barn furniture and has furnished one room completely with their merchandise.
Personally I think it's expensive but she's thrilled with how it all looks. And considering she knows that she'll only get one chance per decade to furnish the room and when I factor in that she's an exemplary shopper/bargain hunter I have to believe their product is worth it.

I don't know about their upholstered pieces, but I agree that you probably would get higher quality for the same price at Ethan Allen if you can find a similar style. We bought our kitchen table and chairs from PB almost 9 years ago and they've held up well though.

If you like Pottery Barn sofas, it might be worth it to drive to Hickory to the Mitchell Gold outlet. They make Pottery Barn's sofas, and you'll be able to buy the same furniture for 50% or less, even after delivery.
Additionally, we bought a much better made sofa for the same price as pottery barn at the a different outlet in the Hickory Furniture mart. For about $500 less than furnitureland south.

Pb's quality is fair. Their fabrics do not hold up. Mainly because they are 100% cotton and that rarely wears well on upholstered pieces. You can find the same styles with more fabric selections at various stores. I also think their case goods don't hold up especially well either. I think you can do better elsewhere. Pay less and get better quality.

You should try Wayside Furniture on Hillsborough Street(beyond the fairgrounds), and Whitley Furniture Gallery. Both have been in business for many, many years. They have a wide range of styles and prices with good honest service. I prefer to buy local over chains. Good luck.
