Are there any disadvantages or advantages in the city limits of Raleigh.

Any towns in the area have lower taxes, etc?

The City of Raleigh's property tax rate is pretty low, $0.3826 per $100 of valuation. Tax rates for some of the other surrounding cities are:

Cary: $0.35
Wake Forest: $0.51
Garner: $0.49
Apex: $0.39
Durham: $0.5675

As you can see, not a great deal of difference in most cases, and Raleigh is about as low as any. Keep in mind you will also pay county property taxes. The Wake County Rate is $0.5340 per $100 of value.
