I'd like to find a good and reasonable chimney sweep to clean and inspect my chimney before closing it up for the season. I found some recommendations on this board, but they are a couple of years old, so wondered if anyone can recommend a company they've used in the past year.

It's a very small wood burning fireplace in a townhome.

I called one of the companies recommended back when, but their price seems steep to me at $189. Is that the going rate?

He wanted an additional $149 to clean my dryer vent.

I don't want to be overly cheap, but I don't want to overpay.

Thanks!

If it wasn't Ashes to Ashes, then that is who I recommend to all of my clients. I would be very surprised to hear they quoted somebody that kind of $$ for cleaning a dryer vent, though of course in a townhouse you could have a really long run.

Classic Chimney Sweeps. Very helpful to me as a first time homeowner and ended up being $150 to clean and use the camera.

I would recommend using a member of this association.
NC Chimney Sweep Association | NCCSA | North Carolina Chimney Sweeps

You need to be very careful with chimney sweeps! They are not regulated by the state and there are plenty of them that will flat out rip you off!!! The quote to clean the dryer vent was (in my experience) excessive!!! By the way, if it is an old T/h from the 80's they often used plastic flex dryer vents (sometime in the ceilings). At this point in time they are almost always deteriorated-a safety concern.

I have always used Mr Smokestack. The owner, Robbie, is a standup guy and very knowledgeable.
