Default Part-time or Work-at-Home type work

I have a 40+ hour a week career but I would like to supplement my income with some part-time work. I would prefer to do data-entry work or something similar from home so that I have the freedom schedule my time. Everything I've found on the internet is either a scam or unpredictable.

Do you have any idea where I can find legitimate part-time work-at-home work here in the Triangle?

Thanks!

Most companies are not going to hire people to work from home right away because of training, retention, productivity etc. Best thing to do is search for companies in the market that have a call center because that utilizes data entry. Some locals are Siemens Medical, Verizon, ZC Sterling, Alltell, ACS Healthcare and the usually have 2nd, 3rd or weekend shifts available as well. Good luck.

Actually, there's a huge telecommuting industry. I was thinking about doing it myself as a couple friends do it but I think I may just want to get out of the house after being a SAHM for many years.

I've just compiled a list of valid telecommuting companies. Most have hardware requirements (computer, memory, etc) and you usually need a land line (no digital phones) and specific headphone/mouthpiece apparatus. Then you go through phone interviews (to weed out those who can't speak or articulate well) and then can select from various job opportunities.

My friend worked from home taking orders for 1-800-flowers and J.Crew. Its all very valid and pay ranges but is usually around $9/hour with them wanting a min of 15 hours a week. There are short term and long term commitments and I'd suggest taking only short term ones until one gets a feel for the jobs.

Also, many require that you work or be available during certain times and complete a min amount of hours. For instance, a particular job may require 25 hours per week and you will have between Mon and Sat 8am to 9pm to complete them. There are restrictions but there's an opportunity to work around your schedule.

I'd be happy to send you a few links to those Telecommuting companies I've found. I may still do it but right now am looking for outside the home part time work.

Lauren

Lauren, I've been considering the same thing and would be very interested in any information you may provide. Thanks so much! Sheila

Consider some sort of free-lancing.
Can you research and write?

Yes, I can research and write. The problem is finding legitimate opportunities to do so. Might you have any contacts?

Do you keep an eye on craigslist? It definitely has its share of scams but I was able to find a good, flexible, legitimate writing job there about 8 months ago but it took me probably 6 months to find it.
