Those are almost impossible questions to answer, I'm afraid.

I know if there are kids involved and the divorce/custody is contested, it can be years and well over $100. I know that personally. If the divorce is not contested, I've heard the lowest lawyer costs are $2000-$2500? You can also file without an attorney - but I can't imagine doing that unless there are no kids and no property issues.

Time-wise - in NC, you have to be living apart for a year before you can file for absolute divorce. Other than that, it is simply waiting for a date on the judges calendar. If it isn't contested, it is a simple form and can only take a few days.

That being said - Mark Sullivan in Raleigh is known as the lawyer's attorney - he is absolutely one of the Wake County experts. But he isn't cheap.

Sorry - I didn't realize that you couldn't give out a public gov't phone number. My point is that Raleigh courts do offer free legal help for divorces if someone qualifies. Perhaps call the main court house phone number and ask for that number?

Thanks - sorry again.

There are document prep services that can draft uncontested divorce papers pretty cheaply if both parties will cooperate.
