still call it all coke. doenst matter what it is, its coke. lol
I always have and my husband still is befuddled by it! Of course, in my house growing up, we didn't get "coke" often....mostly on trips, when you would stop for "a Coke and a pack of Nabs"!

I find that I use different terms in different environments. For instance, at home we tend to use the English words for things a lot ("trainers" instead of "tennis shoes", "bin liner" instead of "trash bag", etc.). But as soon as I get back to my parents' house, I use the same, southern words they do.
Well, except for "warsh". Every time my mother says that it drives me nuts!

"Warsh" sounds more like a DC/Baltimore thing?

Jenaten is on a distinguished road
Hehe! The whole "nabs" thing threw me for a loop when I first moved to NC 12 years ago. I couldn't figure out what in world a pack of nabs was until someone finally told me it was a pack of crackers. I guess it would be Nabisco crackers. Anyone ever use the term "cattywampus" or "wampsided"? I've gotten some real quizzical looks from those terms. My mom can make some great cathead biscuits, too!

The expression I hate is "you guys," when applied to adult women. For some reason it grates on me. Also, I don't know if this is northern or southern but I HATE it when waiters say "are you still working on that" referring to food -- why not are you finished or are you still eating? Working -- YUCK.

I agree with you there. I was born in NY and my mom is very NY and no one in my family ever called it a tag sale? Maybe it's some old NYC slang term that was used a real long time ago? We called it a garage sale or a yard sale.

Born in Virginia, but lived in NY for 20 years and about to move to Raleigh. I scored 65% Southern... kind of surprised.
