After reading the thread on the retirement forum about how millenials don't want our 'stuff', I've decided not to try to re-sell my used furniture but to give it away. So what charities do you like to send things to? I would like to send to a charity that either gives the items to needy households, or if they re-sell it they sell it to support worthy causes like hospitals. Pick-up would be necessary too. Are there any veterans groups?

Thanks. In response to the vietnam vets comment I looked them up, but they only accept small furniture pieces. One of my items is a sofa.

As far as Green Chair, it appears they require you to bring things in yourself or hire a discounted moving company. What about salvation army?

Habitat for Humanity is big into furniture and might pick up your sofa.

In Chapel Hill I take all my stuff to the PTA Thrift Store. It benefits the public schools. I know Chatham County has one, too, but not sure about Durham or Wake.

+1 for Habitat for Humanity. Last year they picked up a nice bedroom furniture set from my house.
