10 dollar milk and 5 dollar eggs..
To the newbys of the area, as funny as it seems that a flurry or risk of sleet can send shutters of panic and raging herds of people to the grocery store where all the bread milk eggs and beer will be gone by 4 pm. The remarks that I lived in antartica and or MA or NY and this is crazy, word of caution. I have been through 43 years of the weather here and while this risk for thur may result in little to nothing I have also witnessed power lines down for up to two weeks. students stuck in school over night and cant get home. empty food stores with people offering cash well above the retail price. hundreds of cars on the side of us 1. error on the side of caution or you could learn the hard way that this is not the NE. We dont have thousand $ in snow equipment and the such to deal with it as well as folks over estimating their driving ability in non driving conditions because of lack of salt. Please learn from the people whom really know this area and be carefull out there if it does get icy....

i wuv you ncman. well said! We simply do not have the equipment in the area that is so common in other parts of the country. Its not worth budgeting it in, when we only receive a bad storm every 5-10 years ( by the way, we are about due for one!)

Also keep in mind that we tend to be on the edge of snow-sleet-freezing rain for most of these deals. This is a lot different than what you guys are used to dealing with. I don't care where you lived in the rust belt, you still can't drive on ice (people with studded tires or chains are excluded from this warning, assuming you know how to use them).
Granted, a lot of these forecasts turn out to be wrong, but don't get cocky.

Snowblower? We sold our super duper snowblower that is working its butt off in NH this winter ... DH so attached to it wanted to bring it with him. I said,
how in the world are you going to sell in in NC??
OK. Milk and water. And bread, too, probably. See ya later.

Now being the good little North Carolinians that you are, you should already have these items in your "emergency" weather kit in case of ice storms, tornados or hurricanes, right next to your generator !
