Thousands of families are denied year round each year.
Is this just in Wake county?? My problem is my kids are 10 1/2 months apart, so at some poitn they are going to be in different schools, even without the reassignments. I don't want one to be year round and one to be traditional if I can avoid it.

There are 3 subdivisions in the low to mid $300K range right near the intersection of Ten-Ten and Lake Wheeler Rd. On the northwest corner is Foxmoor. On the southeast corner is Ridgebrook Bluffs. On the southwest corner is Ridgebrook. All seem to have been build in the 90's. Our house was built in 1999 or 2000.

We are 1 mile from 2 grocery stores, 6 miles to the Home Depot, Target, Lowe's etc in Garner. 15 minutes to downtown Raleigh, 20 minutes to Cary's Crossroads mall, and 30 minutes to RTP (except during in rush hour).

You can choose traditional calendar or YR, so if you don't want there to ever be a difference in calendars, you can choose traditional calendar from the beginning and they shoudl both stay on the same schedule. With only a year's age difference, the only time it would matter would be the year the oldest goes to HS and the younger one is in the 8th grade.

Lamishra, I'm being a bit picky here and I don't mean to be picking on you, lol. BUT, you can't really choose YR. You can apply for year round but you're not guaranteed a spot. Lots of families want it but can't get it. :-)

Another area that has yet to be mentioned is Durham. There are some great schools in Durham and its an outstanding town. The better schools are found in norther and southern Durham, and you can certainly find some great homes within your budget.

Can you recommend any specific areas, subdivisions or zip codes?

ZIPs you might consider in Durham are 27705(eastern), 27713(southern), 27707(south-central) & 27712(northern). As for school districts, you can narrow your search down immdiately by looking at Northern, Riverside and Jordan High School districts. Middle Schools that are good (Brogden, Chewing, Rogers-Herr, Githens), and Elementary Schools (Creekside, Little River, Easley (year round), Hope Valley).
