Bravo to these schools' teachers and leadership for all their hard work! Wendell Elementary (east of Raleigh) and Brentwood Elementary in NE Raleigh both win awards. Two Wake magnet schools win national awards | News & Observer News & Observer

How refreshing to see positives about schools NOT in the north/west areas. Although since they are magnets, i am sure there is plenty of competition to get in. Good for them!

I agree This is why I wanted to share the good news. The eastern side of the triangle has many positives which often go unsaid/unnoticed outside of the community. Also, Hodge Rd Elementary in Knightdale will be a Spanish immersion school. And we will have at least one new Charter school here. The education environ is changing a very positive way here.

LOL! that was a ditzy moment! I couldn't remember if it had started or was going to start and I see I didn't type what I meant. I just checked, looks like it started this school year- Aug 2014, per the N&O Board considers magnet label for Hodge Road | News & Observer News & Observer. And the Magnet status came after this but in this school year.

I am happy that this area is improving the quality of education. We've always had out of area Magnet offerings that haven't been to hard to secure. But now we have more options in our community. There are exciting things going at Knightdale HS you'll be hearing about soon too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the poster was saying that 4 years ago there were so many Hispanic students that just going to the school was an immersion into Spanish. Then again I'm a smart a##.
