If you haven't left yet be sure to take an alternate route and NOT I85. I hear they have started construction on a part you would need to use to get to Ikea. Take 64/49 and you will get there in exactly the same number of minutes without the interstate chaos.

That would be Australia.
There isn't one in Richmond, VA. It's further north in Woodbridge, and I wouldn't suggest fighting the I-95 traffic just to go to IKEA.

Ha! Yes, that one would be quite difficult to get to in one day!

Absolutely. Go for it.
I just wonder when Ikea will get the hint and invest in a store in the Triangle area!

And if you know what you want, don't forget NC Modern delivers direct from Ikea weekly. We found it to be WAY cheaper than driving to Charlotte, taking time off from work, etc. NC Modern Furniture

Driven there and back in one day more times than I want to remember. Not a problem at all.

Definitely doable, but I agree with staying off the interstates and taking highways 64 and 49 instead. It's just as quick, but it's very pretty on 49 so it makes the driving part scenic and relaxing. When you're coming back, turn left out of IKEA, go straight through the light, and go straight until you get to 64. Couldn't be easier.

Make her really happy and couple it with a Great Wolf Lodge overnight. It is really only five or so miles away.
Either way, a day trip is possible.
