Hi, DH's 2008 ford fusion as diagnosed with "something wrong" in the transmission. Capital Ford is estimating $7,000 to replace it - yikes!!!! Any ideas regarding other options? Thanks in advance.

Rose and Son's on South St. Raleigh is the best.

If done at the dealer, the TYPICAL dealer response for transmission issues is to R&R the entire assembly. They don't want to deal with fixing it.

That will solve the problem (I assume) but is the most expensive.

Alternatively, I would search Google using the error codes that were pulled from the computer. It's quite possible it's a reoccurring issue that many others have gone through.

I would visit a transmission specialty shop before making another move. I know what you are going through, my car's transmission starting going south on me a couple years ago. I ended up replacing it with a used one.

The hubby just got a quote for $3000-3500 from Peak Auto in Apex to replace transmission on 03 Pilot. Read online article on this topic and avg cost for SUV is $3090. You can check with them on how much they'll charge.

We had the transmission replaced on our 05 Odyssey back in December for $2800 at Affordable Transmission on Capitol Blvd. That included an add on that helps keep the transmission cool otherwise it would have been $2600.

Isn't that is more than the car is worth assuming it's running ok.

Do they use R/R in the automotive world? Never noticed.

My co-worker had transmission problems two times (one time each) with her two Ford cars. She had to junk them each time when the transmission failed

Get a second opinion. The previous suggestion of Rose and Sons is decent. Try them. I suggest Griffin's transmissions. Not the cheapest but the work will be done correctly.

Still a whole lot cheaper than the stealership.
