Animal Rescue Volunteer (Durham: mall, retired, area)

Retired an seeking to volunteer part-time in animal shelter close to SouthPoint Mall area. Googled, but no luck. Suggestions?

Did you google each shelter near you? I would go to the various shelter websites, on each site there should be an area where they discuss volunteering.

That's great that you are interested in volunteering! I think JanND is correct that most of the shelters would have volunteer info on their specific site. You'd probably be better off looking on google maps for animal shelters near Southpoint and then checking each of their individual sites.

It looks like Claws, Inc is fairly close to Southpoint and they have volunteer info on their site.

Independent Animal Rescue isn't too far, but that depends on your definition of close I guess. It's still in Durham.

Have you considered being a foster for one of the many area rescues?

Triangle Beagle Rescue is ALWAYS in need of volunteer fosters.

This is in Wake County, but Landfill Dogs highlights at-risk ones at WCAC. Many need fosters.

It is not a shelter, but the Coalition is always looking for volunteers.
The Durham chapter does builds on Sundays.

Thank you all for the feedback. Problem is I'm traveling out of town a lot, so "fostering" is out. Just looking to help in a close facility. I may have to consider some other type of volunteer work, as I never know when I will be in the area.
