Looking for bank - commercial and individual
I am moving to NC soon and have a small business and so I'd like to find a bank. I don't think I want one of the national banks because they tend to be fee crazy. I want to be able to get good reporting online and download records to my PC. I want to be able to do real time transfers online. I'll be hooking up a merchant account to the business account, but that shouldn't be a problem. We will be living in Enchanted Oaks, which is south of Raleigh in Wake County between Cary and Garner, and would like a branch in that area as well as other locations around Cary, Garner, and Raleigh. Any recommendations on a bank?
I also need to find someone for home, auto, and commecial liability insurance in the area.

We bank with Wachovia personally. I've never had a fee for anything and their customer service is excellent. My husband owns a staffing firm and he preferred a smaller bank with more local presence so he chose RBC Centura. He's been happy with them. His company's insurance is also through RBC.

I have my business and personal accounts with SunTrust. They have great free business checking accounts and several personal accounts to choose from. Some with fees, some not... depends on the bells and whistles you want.
I've always had great service with them and have my accounts linked online for transfers, downloading statements, check copies, etc.

How is Capital for locations? I am leaning towards SunTrust from what I've seen of where their branches are located.

There is only one location in wake forest, one in cary (on kildaire), there are 5 in raleigh (six forks, falls of the neuse, downtown, etc). My guess is suntrust has more branches. You can look up capital bank (it is capital bank nc) and that may help you decide.

I've had a lot of luck with BB&T. I'm not sure that they're in all of your locations ... they might be ... but I generally don't remember all the BB&T locations. They're not national, more of a super-regional bank in a number of states. They're North Carolina based and have been very friendly in my experience in taking the time to re-order checks, waiving the charge to re-order them, waiving the hold on higher amount checks. I can honestly say that I've never been charged a fee for anything there. (I can't promise they will do all this, such as free checks for everybody, but a lot of it would depend on the manager at the local branch that you talk to and how long you've been a customer. I really think the manager at the branch I go to does do it for everybody though.)
They do have a website and I can do instant transfers. Sometimes, check-card transactions are delayed a day or two if I run it as credit (I don't like giving out my PIN number and always run it as credit). I'm not sure about downloading to PC because I've never tried.

Capital Bank has hand holding customer service and some creative products available. They are making a real effort to draw customers and you should take a look at them.
