Is it common practice for home security companies to make the alarm system unusable in any matter if you don't renewal contracts? This happened to me with CPI. I moved here from another state that had ADT and that did not happen?

My system is usable but is not hooked up to the call center with ADT but I can still arm it so an alarm goes off in the house if a door or window is opened.

I am more concerned with getting a warning should someone try to break in the house so I can get out my .38. If I actually had someone breaking in and had to wait on the police to come and rescue me, chances are I would be dead even if it only took 5 minutes.

I've had two CPI systems. Both were usable before activation. By usable I mean that the alarm would sound, and I could turn on the annoying door chime. Of course, neither system was monitored until I signed the contract and paid my money....

We have a system, but it goes off in electrical storms - a crack of lightening, for example, will set it of, and sometimes for no apparent reason. It's scary when that happens in the middle of the night, and there's no reason for it. Gotta sleep with my gun. Well, they'd have to get past the big watchdogs first - that would be tricky.

Anyway, it's good to have a monitored system even if it goes off without reason now and again.

They say in their contract that the "central reporting device" is owned by them, after the contract is up they take the components inside the main box out if you don't resign. I got left with a lifeless keyboard on the wall. Has this happened to anyone?

WOW, I paid a good amount of money for my set up, I would be pretty upset if someone came to my door to take part of it. This didn't happen to me when I canceled the monitering fee.

But have you been with CPI when your contract was up? Did you have the two-way system where they come across the speaker? I did, I signed up for a 3 yr contract after 2 years I just was not using it. Wanted to save a little money said I wanted to cancel, yes I know I have to pay 75% of the contract. I was told by the salesman that came into my home 2yrs ago I would have a local only system in the end. That they would only take the two way part out. (they don't like ADT to take contracts and use there system I was told.) I had ADT in another state, not the two way system, but after two yrs contract was up I still had something to show for my payments. I had a system that still worked, just didn't call the police. Here I have an empty box with unconnected wires in it. And I can sit here and say more about what they had/ hadn't told me. I just want to know if it is a common practice with CPI.

HickTownNC - At one house, I did have the two-way system with the medical alert, keyless entry, and fire alarm. I suspended the account. Ultimately, I called to break the contract. I had an electrician disconnect the wiring and cap off the end of the wires. The house was on the market. Perhaps, that's the difference. No rush to shut down the system since a new owner may pick up the contract.

Default Cpi Security Systems

Thank you...
So since I did the right thing, followed the rules of the contract I signed, I screwed myself? Since I played by the rules I allowed them to cheat me? 24 months at $37 a month, plus 75% of the 3rd and I'm the fool? Did the company take advantage of me?
